Who is this for?

Built for anyone starting their Lean journey

If you work in operations, healthcare, services, manufacturing, the public sector or an office and your team is starting to talk about "Lean", "5S" or "continuous improvement", Lean Associate is built for you. You'll come out able to spot waste, run a 5S audit, contribute to a kaizen event and read a value-stream map.

Lean Associate takes 2-3 weeks at about 3-4 hours per week. It is fully self-paced, with quizzes at the end of every module and a final knowledge test. You get a personalised certificate when you pass.

It is also the lowest-risk way to test if pure Lean is for you before stepping up to Lean Practitioner (£165) or the Lean Suite bundle (£285) — which gives you all three Lean levels and saves £240.

Curriculum

What you'll learn — 4 modules, 12 lessons

1

What Lean really is

Where Lean came from (Toyota), how it differs from Six Sigma, and why it works in any industry — manufacturing, services, healthcare, office.

2

8 wastes (DOWNTIME)

Spot the 8 wastes in your own workplace, with worked examples from offices, factories, hospitals and retail.

3

5S workplace organisation

Sort, Set, Shine, Standardise, Sustain — applied to physical workspaces, digital folders and email inboxes.

4

Value-stream thinking

Read a basic value-stream map, identify value vs non-value-added steps, and understand flow and pull.

5

Kaizen basics

What a kaizen event is, how teams run them, and the role of an Associate as a contributor.

Final exam & certificate

Final knowledge test (multi-attempt). Pass and instantly download your personalised SimplicityHub Lean Associate certificate plus a LinkedIn-ready badge.

How Lean Associate is used

Real-world ways teams use Lean Associate

Lean Associate is foundation-level Lean training. It doesn't expect you to lead transformations — it makes sure that when 5S, kaizen or VSM lands on your team, you can join in confidently and add value from day one.

All-team rollouts

Companies issue Lean Associate to every member of a team or department before kicking off a new improvement programme so everyone shares the same vocabulary.

Pre-qualifying for Practitioner

Take Associate first to confirm the Lean route is for you before paying for Lean Practitioner (£165) or Advanced Lean Practitioner (£265).

CV & LinkedIn boost

Add a recognised Lean certification and shareable badge to your profile — for less than the price of a textbook — to stand out for ops, supervisor and CI roles.

Why this level matters

Most failed Lean rollouts fail because the wider team don't understand what their Practitioners are doing. A workforce that's all Associate-trained removes that friction — meetings move faster, suggestions get sharper, and improvement events deliver real wins.

FAQ

Common questions

Who is Lean Associate for?

Team members, supervisors, healthcare staff, office workers, frontline operators — anyone whose team is starting to use Lean and wants to contribute confidently without leading the project.

How long does it take?

2-3 weeks at 3-4 hours per week. Fully self-paced — go faster or slower whenever you like.

What's the difference between Lean Associate and Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt?

Associate is pure Lean — flow, waste, 5S, kaizen, value streams. Yellow Belt also covers DMAIC and the basics of statistical thinking. Many learners take both. The two tracks are complementary, not competing.

Do I need any prior knowledge?

No. Lean Associate assumes you've never run an improvement project before. We teach plain English first, jargon second.

Should I skip to Lean Practitioner?

Only if you've already run kaizen events or built value-stream maps. For most people Associate is the right starting point — and the Lean Suite bundle (£285) gives you all three levels with a £240 saving.

Is the certificate recognised?

Yes. Aligned with industry standards and mapped to the Lean Foundation / Associate body of knowledge. Issued by SimplicityHub Academy on completion.
