Why ChatGPT Is Genuinely Useful for LSS
ChatGPT and similar LLMs (Large Language Models) are particularly well-suited to the structured, document-heavy nature of Lean Six Sigma work. They're good at:
- Drafting and refining structured documents (charters, problem statements, control plans)
- Brainstorming causes, solutions and risks when you're stuck
- Explaining statistical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
- Generating first drafts of training materials and SOPs
- Summarising large volumes of qualitative data (complaints, feedback, meeting notes)
Where ChatGPT won't help: it can't analyse your actual data, run statistics or connect to your process systems. It's a thinking partner, not a data tool.

Tips for Getting the Best Results
- Give context: The more background you provide (industry, process, data), the more relevant the output. Don't just ask a generic question.
- Specify the format: "Format as a table", "Use bullet points", "Write in plain English for a non-technical audience" — be explicit.
- Iterate: The first response is rarely the best. Ask it to improve, simplify, expand, or adjust the tone.
- Fact-check everything: ChatGPT can hallucinate specific numbers, references and technical details. Always verify before using in a real project.
